K-9 Division
This division currently consists of one highly qualified, extensively trained K-9 animal used to detect narcotics and for the apprehension of dangerous life-threatening criminal suspects. The K-9 animals are court-certified in the detection and aggression tactics. Each K-9 and K-9 handler is state-certified in all aspects of K-9 training, procedures, policy and law.
The K-9 training is an extensive twelve (12) week course instructed at the K-9 Police Training Center located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. K-9 animals are considered by the State of Alabama as certified police animals. Each K-9 and K-9 handler must achieve re-certification each year at the K-9 academy.
The K-9 animals and handlers are assigned to the Wiregrass Violent Crime/Drug Task Force.
